International Exchange Division

@@Our Okinawan ancestors, who used boats to bridge the nations, nurtured a unique culture through supporting and developing their lean island economy by exchanging with other nations as oceanic residents.

@   Through this, instead of being held back by the small size of the island, the tradition of going out to sea seeking the oceanfs vastness exists. This can be seen through the history of long-lasting exchange with neighboring countries and international exchange activities between the prefecture, our nation and over 3 million emigrants from our prefecture to Hawaii, North America and South America.

@   On the other hand, interdependence between regions and nations is increasing due to progress in globalization in such fields as people, goods, commerce and information.

@   From Okinawafs history and geographical characteristics, it is important that the development of Okinawa Prefecture as a place for personal, cultural and material exchange between Japan and neighboring countries not only contributes to its own promotional development, but also international society as well.

@   Projects are being carried out for purpose of increasing Okinawafs promotional development, international cooperation and international friendship through such exchange activities with neighboring countries.
